Paras Pasricha, Business Head – Motor Insurance at Policybazaar.com, said policyholders are now viewing add-ons as necessary components of their coverage, not optional extras.
He noted a growing demand for high-utility covers beyond traditional options like Zero Depreciation and Engine Protection.
Here are some lesser-known but relevant add-ons now being offered:
Clutch protector
Covers repair or replacement of clutch assembly parts—such as clutch plate and pressure plate—due to wear and tear, which is usually excluded from standard policies.
Legal protection cover
Provides financial assistance for legal costs related to disputes or proceedings following an accident. It includes defence expenses and the cost of hiring legal representation.
Daily allowance cover
Offers a fixed daily payout (e.g., ₹500–₹1,500) for each day the insured vehicle is in the garage for repairs after a covered incident.
Loss of personal belongings cover
Compensates for stolen or damaged personal items inside the insured vehicle during an accident or break-in.
Battery protection cover
Primarily for electric vehicles, it covers costs arising from battery failure due to mechanical or electrical breakdowns, short circuits, or water damage. Some insurers also include battery diagnostics and jump-start support.
Hotel and travel expenses cover
Reimburses cab fares and hotel charges if the accident occurs far from the vehicle owner’s residence.
Key replacement cover
Covers the cost of replacing lost or damaged high-security car keys and locks. Limits on the number of claims may vary by insurer.
Tyre protector cover
Covers tyre or tube damage not caused by accidents, including labour charges for tyre removal and fitting.
Policybazaar highlights that customers are opting for these add-ons to reduce out-of-pocket expenses and ensure smoother claim processes. The shift includes owners of both new and older vehicles.
