Ather Energy recently concluded its All-India Firmware Development Challenge-Bitebettles 2.0-2 at its corporate office in Bengaluru. Centered around the subject of security in electric two-wheelers, 30-hour firmware Hacathan brought more than 700 engineers, developers and students from across the country to work together on real-world security solutions.
The event, held on 5th and 6 April 2025, was sponsored by Qualcomm, Electrobit, NXP and Infinon. This year’s challenge revolves around Ather’s in-house developed Ather Software Development Kit (ASDK), designed to manufacture embedded vehicle firmware supporting motor control, battery safety, regenerative braking and more, the company said in a media release.
Bytebattles 2.0 saw registration from 179 teams, including 722 per partners including Premier Institutes and IIT-Madras, Nit Warangal, IISC, Manipal, Zoom, Stellantis, Capgemini, Elektrobit and Nosh Robotics.
Finalists – 12 teams – were selected after a rigorous online early round and competition was done overnight in the campus, which created firmware solutions that improve ride safety, such as obstruction detection, terrain analysis and advanced vehicle function control.
Swapnil Jain, co-founder and CTO of Ather Energy, commented, “It is as much about two-wheelers as it is about hardware. Bitbatts 2.0 was about to experiment with 2.0 ASDK and bringing engineers and developers together to create real-world security solutions.”
“The vehicle firmware comes with unique obstacles-it is about solving for real-time performance, reliability and efficiency. We believe that the best way to run innovation is to get hands, test ideas and push boundaries, and it was great to see the participants doing so.”
The company said it was actively working on improving security in its products. The 2025 Ather 450 includes multi-mode traction control, while the RISTA electric scooter has a skidcontrol, designed to reduce the risk of skiding on slippery surfaces.
Other safety enrichrs include fallsfe, which cuts the motor power in the event of a decline, and emergency stop signals, which brightens the tail light rapidly during sudden braking. Recently, Athestac 6 update also introduced a live location sharing feature to increase rider security.
Hackathon had a total prize of 2,00,000 Pools and aims to promote cooperation and skill-building in the embedded system and automotive software development community.
