Carlos Alakraj on Sunday (April 13, 2025) defeated a hurt-stroke Lorenzo Mussetti 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 to win the Monte Carlo Final and won his sixth Masters 1000 career title.
Alkaraj cruelted his first Monte Carlo Trophy and his 18th Tour-Level win. The 21 -year -old Spaniad will reach number 2 in the world rankings after Triumph in Monaco.
Mussetti showed signs of right leg injury in the third set and received treatment at 0–3. Playing in their first Masters 1000 finals, 23 -year -old Italian had trouble moving and keeping with Alkaraz at the end of the match.
“It’s not that I want to win a match, I really feel sorry for him,” said Alakraj. “In fact the first time Monte is happy to win Carlo. It has been a very difficult week, with a lot of difficult circumstances, I really proud to myself how I deal with everything.” Alkaraj has struggled several times this year and was losing David Gofne in Miami in the early stages.
Alakraj was the third consecutive Clay-court final after winning the French Open with a silver medal at the Paris Olympics last year.
Alakraj was playing in his 23rd tour-level final. In the semi-finals on Saturday, he needed six match points to remove Spanish compatriot Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 7-6 (2), 6-4.
Mussetti, whose only two tour-level titles came in 2022, served Alakraj twice to win the first set, but Alakraj also returned to a strong match with his own two brakes in the second. Musetti was never in much controversy in Dickider.
Last year, in Paris, 13th position and a bronze-foot-winner Mussetti defeated Alex D Minaur in their semi-finals by 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (4). Italian excluded the defending champion Stephanos Tsitipus in the quarter -finals.
The final was extended for three hours as heavy rains were estimated for the evening.
