The Central Government has expanded the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Mantra Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-Jai), which has covered all senior citizens aged 70 and above, regardless of their income. The purpose of this expansion is to provide health insurance coverage 5 lakh per family, about six crore per year, benefits about 4.5 crore families.

1) Eligibility and Benefits
Despite the socio-economic situation, every senior citizen of the age of 70 years or older is eligible for AB PM-J benefit. They will receive a new, specific card to use the plan.
2) For people already covered under AB PM-J
Senior citizens aged 70 years and above are already part of families covered under AB PM-J 5 lakhs per year especially for themselves. This amount is different from the coverage shared with the members of the young family.
3) For people with other public health insurance schemes
Senior 70 years and above, who are currently benefiting from other public health schemes like Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), East-Service Contribution Health Scheme (ECHS), or Ayushman Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), have the option to either stay with their current coverage or switch to AB PM-Jai.
4) For private health insurance holders
Yes, it has been clarified that 70 years and above senior citizens under private health insurance policies will be eligible to avail the benefit under PM-Jai, said Pankaj Maithpal, MD and CEO of Optima Money Managers.
5) How it works
Eligible senior citizens will be issued a separate card under AB PM-J, which they can use to reach their health insurance coverage. If many senior citizens are covered in the same family, then there will be benefit from each one 5 lakh annual coverage.
AB PM-J has a world’s largest publicly funded health assurance scheme, offering comprehensive secondary and tertiary care hospitalized coverage for 55 crore individuals or 12.34 crore families. The scheme includes all eligible family members regardless of age.
