The Executive Director of the Texas State Lottery on Monday resigned in the latest result from the agency’s decision in 2023 to help professional bookies in Europe and print millions of tickets for his tickets and guarantee themselves a $ 95 million jackpot victory.
The resignation of the officer, Ryan Midel, came amid suspicion that Texas could escape the lottery scam. Texas Rangers, a State Law Enforcement Agency, and the office of Texas Attorney General have opened an investigation into a 2023 draw, in which European bookies worked to buy almost every ticket with several American lottery ticket purchasing companies, each at $ 1, in a Lotto Texas game, which was 25.8 million possible combinations.
Lottery raises funds for state schools – provides around $ 2 billion in the last financial year – but recently some state leaders have suggested to do it completely.
No reason was given for the resignation of Mr. Mindel, which was immediately implemented by the Commission in a statement on Monday. A spokesperson refused to comment further.
The New York Times resigned a day after the video of ticket printing operation and video of the deficiencies of the agency’s deficiencies. After months of reporting in 2023 draws by Houston Chronicle and other outlets.
Earlier this month, Texas House ended the lottery from its edition of the state budget. In February, the state senators rapidly interrogated Mr. Mindale and others during the hearing on the 2023 draw. Some suggested that lottery was used to facilitate money laundering, although no evidence of such activity was revealed.
“Is $ 25 million $ 1 buying tickets, a sign of money laundering, yes or not?” Senator Paul Bettencourt asked Mr. Mindel during an exchange.
“I can’t answer that question,” said Mr. Mindel.
“Wow,” Mr. Betangkourt replied.
Following the resignation of last year’s Executive Director Gary Groff, Mr. Midel took over as the commission last year, in -charge of the 2023 draw.
MPs found that under Mr. Groff, the Commission accelerated the delivery of dozens of additional lottery terminals and assisted professional bookies, which are used to buy and print tickets for three American companies, lottery.com, wood zone and lottery. Additional machines enabled companies to successfully print millions of combinations during a 72-hour window between lottery draws, helping to ensure that they had the winner.
Mr. Grife has denied any wrongdoing, as included in companies and European bookies.
