About half of Americans have a negative attitude on Tesla and Elon Musk, CNBC gets survey

Comprehensive public and investors have some common these days: they do not have much love either Tesla Or CEO Elon Musk.

Tesla’s stock has a withering sales, and the CNBC All-US Economic Survey found that more than 47% of the people have a negative attitude of the company. Another 27% electric vehicle is positive on manufacturer, while 24% are neutral. It compares with a third public who has a positive attitude General Motors 51% neutral and 10% negative.

Tesla has been under pressure with the concern that the controversial political activities of its founder in supporting government employment and supporting President Donald Trump and Republican may separate potential buyers. Tesla offices have staged protests across the country.

In the survey, Kasturi found an excessive polarization figure. Half of the public has a negative outlook of musk, compared to 36% that see it positively and 16% that are neutral. Between the Democrats, the net approval of the musk (positive minus negative) is -82 and -49 for freedom. GOPs are respondents +56.

The biggest problem for Tesla can be that many groups that are potential customers are far more positive about electric vehicles that they are about the company.

“Where Tesla is the strongest, at least one of those people likely to buy EV,” said Micah Roberts, partner of Public Opinion Strategies, The Republican Pollster.

Overall, 35% of American are negative on EVS and 33% are positive. Men, however, are +11 in the net approval of EVS, but are equally divided on Tesla. Young people aged 18-34 are +19 on EVS, but on Tesla -23. This difference is the highest among Democrats, which are +20 but -74 on EV on Tesla.

To further complicated this issue: Republican is strongly positive on Tesla, but pure negative on EVS.

The survey of 1,000 people across the country was conducted through April 9 through April 9 and has a margin of an +/- 3.1%error.
