The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has made Aadhaar mandatory for subsidies and benefits under the Electronic National Agriculture Market (Enam) Scheme.
In a notification on April 21, 2025, the Ministry said that individuals would have to submit the basis for evidence of certification or identity to get benefits. People without Aadhaar numbers have to apply for enrolment.
There is a 12-conductive unique identification number issued by India’s Unique Identification Authority (UIDAI). It helps in verifying identity by using biometric and demographic data and is widely used to reach government schemes and services.
The purpose of the Enam scheme is to strengthen inter-market and inter-state agricultural trade. The Center has planned to expand the digital platforms by the installation of warehouse -based sales (WBS), integrating Enwr and promoting the farmer’s access to the farmer through peasant manufacturer organizations (FPOS).
₹ 30 lakh for computer hardware, internet, and assay equipment, and an additional ₹ 75 lakh per mandi grant for sorting, grading and fertilizer units, a one -time grant of mandi, is offered for infrastructure. FPOs are the main beneficiaries under this scheme.
The scheme is funded by India’s Integrated Fund. To add Aadhaar, the step is aimed at improving transparency, efficiency and delivery of services.
