PF transfers simplified
EPFO has introduced a revised Form 13 for transferring Provident Fund (PF) balances. Employees changing jobs can now transfer their PF without employer intervention, provided their Universal Account Number (UAN) is Aadhaar-linked.
Instant UAN activation
Members can now activate their UAN through Aadhaar-based face authentication on the UMANG mobile app.
According to EPFO, this change will benefit the significant number of members who have not yet activated their UAN.
Claim process made easier
EPFO has removed the requirement to upload cancelled cheques or bank passbook images for claims, as long as the bank account is validated through the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
Auto-processing of claims expanded
The auto-claim settlement facility, initially available only for medical emergencies, has been extended to include claims for housing, marriage, and education.
As of March 2025, around 60% of advance claims are being settled through this automated process, many within three working days.
Direct bank account linking
Members can now link their bank accounts to their UAN directly through NPCI or their bank. Earlier, such requests required employer verification, which typically took up to 16 days.
One-time payment option for employers
Employers unable to submit Electronic Challan-cum-Return (ECR) for past periods can now opt to pay dues via Demand Draft. This facility is subject to approval by the concerned EPFO field office.
Self-service for member profile updates
EPFO has enabled members to update personal details such as name, date of birth, and gender directly through the portal, provided their UAN is Aadhaar verified.
This change removes the earlier requirement for employer verification or physical documentation.
