The change applies to fuel spends, including petrol, diesel, and CNG purchases at oil marketing companies (OMCs). Currently, Gold Card users earn points on most categories except for insurance, utility bills, and now, starting June 12, fuel payments will also be excluded.
This update is part of a broader revision to the American Express Gold Card’s rewards structure. The company had earlier capped utility bill points and removed insurance spends from eligibility.
Cardholders will still earn points on other spending categories like travel, shopping, dining, and more.
American Express has not changed the fuel rewards structure for other cards such as SmartEarn™ or Rewards Credit Cards as of now.
Cardmembers should review their spending habits and check Amex’s updated reward terms regularly.
Additionally, HDFC Bank will revise some credit card charges starting July 1, 2025. Customers who spend over ₹10,000 per month on online skill-based gaming platforms such as Dream11, Rummy Culture, or MPL will face a 1% fee. The charge will apply to the total monthly gaming spend and will be capped at ₹4,999. These transactions will not earn reward points, the lender mentioned on its website.
Credit card users who load more than ₹10,000 per month into third-party wallets like Paytm or Mobikwik will also be charged 1%. This fee will apply to the total wallet-loading amount and will be capped at ₹4,999.
