In a bout to break traditional criteria, Shark tank judge Anupam Mittal, while talking about his daughter, shared a hearty note on a social media post. The post melted the hearts and made the public happy.
Mittal’s daughter Elisa
The entrepreneur talked about her daughter and recalled the moment when she was born. Instead of determining his daughter’s name according to old traditions, the family wanted his daughter to have his own identity when he came to choose her middle name. She shared that “in many Indian regions, the father’s name is handed over automatically. And when it is a daughter, her husband’s name eventually changes it. It is a quiet pattern that mostly does not notice, question alone. But we did it.”
The businessman provided more insight into the judgment, shared, “In a world where women are still introduced as someone’s daughter, someone’s wife, someone’s mother … we just wanted to start her as themselves.”
Elisa Anantara
The couple defined the common traditions of passing the names and instead gave their daughter a meaningful middle name, which had some glimpse for them. Mittal explained in the post, “Anantara means infinite. It attracts ‘Anant’ – another name for Goddess Saraswati, which represents knowledge and learning.”
He talked about how a name could seem a small and small detail; However, for the couple, it was a way to free his daughter from advancing someone’s legacy, but her own. Mittal shared that he does not wish to define his daughter by men in his life and he is free to write his story.
In his post, he shared that it was not an announcement about a bold step in any way; Instead, “This was just the right beginning for us. A quiet way to express our belief in equality – in his autonomy, and in his future. And for us, it was quite powerful.”
Public reaction
Traditionally, when a daughter is born, she usually takes her father’s name and then later on her husband’s name. This step from Mittal came out for him in a way to free his daughter from traditional norms.
The public had sweet reactions to the posts shared on online platforms. People commented on the post, sharing how it took them and how the story resonated with them at a personal level.
