Learning the importance of Riaz
When asked about his former-phase routine or vocal practice, AR Rahman told Mashable India that he raised Riyaz’s habit from Lata Mangeshkar. He admitted that he had not previously practiced much before the live show, assuming that as a musician, the audience would understand his style. He said that during a 2006 concert in Hyderabad organized by the foundation of Lata ji, he heard someone doing vocal practice before the show. For her surprise, this Lata Mangeshkar herself was rehearsing with a harmonium. Rahman remembered thinking, “He is Lata Mangeshkar – why does he need to practice?” That moment made him feel the value of constant preparation.
Start your own routine routine
After seeing Lata Mangeshkar’s dedication, R Rehman started to perform Riyaz before his concerts. He shared that since then, he made it a regular part of his routine, saying, “When I started Riyazing. I now practice for about 30 to 40 minutes before going on stage.”
