A crash involving a tour bus and a Nissan S.U.V. in Los Angeles early on Sunday morning killed at least one person and left 32 other people injured, the authorities said.
The crash happened around 5 a.m. on the 60 Freeway in Hacienda Heights, which is about 20 miles southeast of the city of Los Angeles.
When firefighters arrived, the S.U.V. was fully engulfed in flames, but the fire did not spread to the bus, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The driver of the S.U.V., who was the only occupant of the vehicle, died, Officer Zachary Salazar of the California Highway Patrol told the news outlet KTLA5. At least 63 people were on the bus, Officer Salazar said.
Six people were taken to hospitals for serious injuries, said Fredrick Fielding, a public information officer for L.A. County Fire. Twenty-six other patients were taken to hospitals with minor injuries, he said. The remaining passengers were released.
Photos show the bus tilted on the shoulder of the highway with damage to its front bumper and its windshield shattered.
It was not immediately clear what caused the crash. The westbound side of the highway was closed on Sunday morning after the crash.
