Nagpur: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Saturday that he allocated the bulletproof car and instead chose to ride in one which runs on renewable energy. Speaking at a public event, Gadkari said, “I have a hydrogen-operated Toyota car, which is the first of its kind in the world. I left my bulletproof car for it.”
Akshaya is known to make an aggressive pitch for auto fuel, Gadkari talked about both hydrogen and also used agricultural waste to increase existing fuel options.
Talking about hydrogen as a clean alternative, the end result on burning is water, Gadkari said, “We should now start working on the production of hydrogen (as auto fuel). This fuel transport process has to be focused on the transport process. I have urged companies to think and start work.”
Regarding agricultural waste, Gadkari said, “Our country is now producing fuel with rice straw.” While he did not explain this on Saturday, this is something about which the Ministry has spoken before. Bio-CNG production from rice straw is going on in states like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka.
Last year, a statement by the Ministry mentions that “the conversion ratio of rice straw is about 5: 1 ton from Bio-CNG”. On Saturday, Gadkari said, “All such efforts will eventually help us reduce our fossil fuel import bills.”
Reiterating the importance of manpower, Gadkari said that no industry can survive without skilled people. Since he was speaking at an event organized by an education group, Gadkari said, “We should see people in the skills that are essential by industries working in the surrounding area. We have IT companies in Nagpur who are in Mihan, wildlife tourism around the city and now we are developing excellent waterfalls.
