A resident of Sunworld Vanalika, a housing society in Sector 107, wrote to the district magistrate after he was not allowed to charge his electric vehicle (EV) at the society, seeking intervention over the lack of interim EV charging facilities within the society premises.
In his letter, Pramod Chauhan alleged that while some existing EV owners continue to use temporary personal charging points installed under the previous AOA, the current AOA is denying similar permissions to new EV users.
Chauhan said he made multiple appeals to the AOA to allow regulated personal charging facilities as a temporary solution until a centralized EV charging station is installed. “The AOA has acknowledged the need for a centralized charging facility, but its implementation may take several months. Meanwhile, new EV users are being denied access to any interim solution,” he stated in the letter.
Meanwhile, AOA president Pooja Anand told TOI, “We need guidance and proper directives from the district administration to go forward on the issue of providing EV charging points for residents of the society. When the society’s electricity load was sanctioned, it was not made for such vehicle charging points.”
Additional district magistrate (Finance) Atul Kumar said that a meeting was scheduled with the AOA and the electricity department at the Surajpur collectorate office on Thursday. “Several societies have complained regarding the issue of EV charging in their society. A solution will be found in the meeting. If the solution is not found, then a report will be sent to the govt. A decision will be taken on the steps to be taken forward after hearing all stakeholders,” the ADM said.
