Seoul: South Korea’s top automaker Hyundai Motor said on Sunday that it has sold over 500,000 units of Palisade Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) in the United States, as the automakers scramble to navigate global trade turmoil.
According to Hyundai’s sales data, the cumulative sales of palate in the United States reached 506,425 units by the end of last month.
According to a report by Yonhap News Agency, Hyundai Motor launched the first generation Palisade SUV in the US market six years ago six years ago. The second generation model has been released later this year.
In 2024, about two-thirds of global sales of 165,745 units came from the US market.
Quoting the US as the “world’s most competitive SUV market”, Hyundai said it would further promote sales there with a diverse SUV lineup made of Tuxon, Santa F and Palisade models.
According to automotive sales data firm Marklines, in the January-March period, there were 3.12 million units, or 78 percent, SUVs and other multipurpose vehicles.
The second generation Palisade SUV will be available in the world’s most important automobile market in the second half of the year. Domestic, it was launched in January.
The new Palisade comes with a 3.5-liter gasoline engine or US market with a 2.5-liter turbocharged gasoline hybrid engine.
Hyundai has planned to connect the Palisade model with a gasoline hybrid engine and the Palisade XRT Pro model designed for off-road driving for American customers in the second half.
In Korea, models with a 2.5-liter turbo gasoline engine or 2.5-liter turbo gasoline hybrid engine have been launched.
At its CEO Investor Day held in August, Hyundai announced that it would double the number of gasoline hybrid models by 14 by 2030 and increase the EV model from six to 21 during the same period.
The company also said that its objective is to sell 2 million all-electric vehicles in global markets in 2030 despite the temporary recession in the EV model.
But this year, the market uncertainties have increased dramatically as US President Donald Trump has recently imposed 25 percent tariffs on imported vehicles.
In the January-March period, Hyundai’s vehicle sales in the US market increased by 10.1 percent, which was helped by the SUV model.
