Earlier, Maharashtra Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare had assured that the April instalment would be credited in the first week of May. Despite the announcement, many beneficiaries have reported not receiving the April funds.
Responding to the delay, Tatkare clarified that the government withheld funds for some applicants due to a routine verification process. In a recent update, she revealed that 2,289 ineligible government employees were found to have enrolled under the scheme between January and February.
These names have now been removed from the beneficiary list.
Tatkare stated that the verification covered over 2 lakh applications in the service sector.
“This is a routine process. We want to ensure that only genuine beneficiaries receive the funds,” she said in a social media post dated May 30.
The Ladki Bahin Yojana, launched in August 2024, provides monthly support of ₹1,500 to eligible women aged 21 to 65. The funds are directly transferred to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.
Under this, eligible women in the age group of 21-65 years are entitled to a monthly assistance of ₹ 1,500. Government employees are, however, not eligible for the scheme.
Mahayuti leaders have attributed the success of the ruling alliance in the assembly polls to the Ladki Bahin scheme, but have also admitted that it has put severe strain on the state exchequer.
Women who have not received their April or May payments are advised to check the scheme’s official portal: ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in.
