Mercedes-Benz India celebrated a production milestone by rolling its 200,000 locally manufactured car, an EQS SUV from its Pune plant. This achievement underlines the company’s growth and its commitment to local manufacturing in India. In this program, a member of the Management Board of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Dr. Major data including Jurg Berzer and Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Santosh Iyer was participated in.

Manufacturing capacity
The production of Mercedes-Benz India has increased significantly. The company produced 50,000 cars in its first 19 years (1995–2014). This was followed by another 150,000 units in just a decade (2015-2025). Notable, 50,000 cars were manufactured in the last two years. The company’s Chakan facility has achieved many earlier. This was the first place outside Germany producing the Mercedes-Meback S500 in 2015. The plant also changed the local production of EQS 580 sedan in 2022, making an important step in electric vehicle manufacturing. Mercedes-Benz also became the first manufacturer to localize another electric vehicle (BEV) production in India with EQS 580 SUVs. The Pune facility has been operated from 2022 completely by green energy.
11 with locally produced models, Mercedes-Benz “Made in India” offers the most wide range of luxury vehicles. The company has invested INR 3,000 crore in India, which is the highest investment by any luxury car manufacturer in the country, with the additional INR 200 million invested in 2024.
