Good news for railway aspirants! The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has announced the RRB ALP Recruitment 2025, offering approximately 9,900 vacancies for the post of Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP).
Candidates interested in applying can submit their application forms online from April 10 to May 9, 2025.
A short notification has already been released by the RRB, and the detailed notification will be published soon on the official websites of the respective RRB regional boards.
When comparing the ALP 2025 vacancies with those of the previous year, there is a notable increase. In 2024, the Railways initially announced 5,696 ALP vacancies, which were later revised to 18,799.
Given this trend, it is possible that the number of vacancies for 2025 may also increase.

RRB ALP 2025 Important Updates

RRB ALP 2025 Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who wish to apply for the Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) post in 2025 must meet the following educational qualifications:
- Must have passed Class 10 (Matriculation) along with an ITI certificate in a relevant trade OR
- Must have completed Class 10 with a 3-year diploma in engineering in a related field.

RRB ALP 2025 Age Limit
The age of the candidate should be between 18 to 30 years.
- SC/ST candidates: 5 years of age relaxation
- OBC candidates: 3 years of age relaxation
RRB ALP 2025 Application Fee
The application fee for General and OBC candidates is ₹500. After appearing for the CBT-1 exam, ₹400 will be refunded to the same account provided during the application process.
For SC/ST/EWS/Female/PwBD candidates, the application fee is ₹250, which will be fully refunded upon appearing for the CBT-1 exam.
RRB ALP 2025 Exam Pattern
The Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) exam will be conducted in two stages: CBT-1 and CBT-2.
CBT-1 (First Stage)
- The exam will consist of 75 questions from the following subjects:
- Mathematics
- Reasoning
- General Science
- General Awareness/Current Affairs
- Total duration: 60 minutes
- Minimum qualifying marks:
- UR: 40%
- OBC/SC: 30%
- ST: 25%
- Negative marking: ⅓ mark will be deducted for each wrong answer.
CBT-2 (Second Stage)
CBT-2 is divided into two parts:
Part A
- 100 questions to be answered in 90 minutes
- Covers the same subjects as CBT-1
- Qualifying marks remain the same as CBT-1
Part B
- 75 trade-related questions
- Duration: 60 minutes
- Candidates must score a minimum of 35% (qualifying in nature)
Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
Candidates who clear both CBT-1 and CBT-2 will appear for the Computer-Based Aptitude Test.
- Minimum qualifying marks: 42 out of 100
- No negative marking in this stage
RRB ALP 2025 Selection Process
The selection process is expected to be conducted in four stages:
- CBT Stage 1
- CBT Stage 2
- Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
- Document Verification
Only candidates who qualify in the CBT Stage 1 will be eligible to appear for CBT Stage 2. Those who clear CBT Stage 2 will proceed to the Aptitude Test. Finally, candidates who pass the aptitude test will be called for Document Verification.
