“Bridgerton” Breakout Simon Ashley, Apple TV +’s “Surface” lead star Gugu Mabatha-Row and USC’s Anenberg Inklusion Initiative Founder Dr. Stacey L. Smith is set to lead the lineup in upcoming women at the film conference to be held at the University of Oxford.
According to the organizers, the day -long incident at the university’s Sheldonian Theater will celebrate the change and urge further progress.
Ashley, recently seen in Amazon Prime’s “Picture This”, will be interviewed by Smith, which is being interviewed by Anenberg Inkluson Initiative Oxford University’s cultural program and The Gounto Film School.
“Simone is a multi-Hifen that is clearly the future of the entertainment industry,” Smith said. “As we celebrate women’s work during entertainment, Simone’s voice represents the latest and next generation of leaders. Giving her a platform to talk about her career, her ambitions, and her success will undoubtedly inspire our audiences and will increase the conversation on women in the film.”
Ashley is set to appear on stage after BIFA Award winner Mabatha-R, which grew prominently in the film with roles in “Belle,” “Constion,” “A Rinkle in Time,” “Fast Color,” and “Motherless Brooklyn”.
“Gugu brings the treasure of experience and knowledge for his work and interactions like these,” Smith said. “She has embodied film and television roles in the US and Britain with incredible talent on the screen and behind the camera. By connecting with us in Oxford, Gugu can discuss his career journey and share his unique knowledge of entertainment ecosystems by discussing his career journey, how can he navigate the industry, and provides our audience as an artist today.”
The event will also have a panel conversation with industry names including Orien Pick (“The Date”), twice the Oscar-nominee and the BAFTA-winner manufacturer Finola Dwire (“Brooklyn,” “A Education”), and Casting Director Lucy Bevan (“Barbie,” The Batman “). Additionally, on this day there will be an evening screening by the students of Jewish Basti Film School Screening Shorts and BAFTA-winning documentary “for Sama” with Q&A with director Wad al-Catb.
Meanwhile, Smith. The global film will present new research on the status of women.
“Cinema has made significant progress for women and focused content on women,” she said. “Through research and data, we can see where more to do, especially for women of color in entertainment.”
Women will be held on 12 May at the film conference.
