In the huge scenario of Indian cinema, some films have left an impression deeply and permanently ‘Thousand Khwishin ICAs a seminal Political love story Complete 20 years, filmmaker Sudhir Mishra opens in a special conversation about the journey, which led to his most famous work.
Here are part of the interview:
Tell us about the origin of ‘Hazorone Khwishin IC’ because it turns 20 years old
“First of all, I am happy that you consider ‘Hazaron Khwishin Aisi’ as your best. I agree. You know, I often think: do you write stories, or do you find stories? I believe, more and more, these stories find you – and you should only make a story that makes you find you.”
“But we make many films to make a film that we really want. I think ‘Hazaron …’ is the film – one that only I could make.”
“I mean, it is not an accident that there are no other films like ‘Hazaron Khwishin IC’. It is a difficult task to follow. I don’t know that I am getting insufficient, but my entire background prepared me for it – my grandfather, my grandfather, my grandfather, who was a follower of Sardar Patel and in any way, was in Mrs. Gayle.”
“Then at that time I had my own left-bound views, and the generation with which I grew up. It was the last generation who actively reacted against the political and cultural heritage assigned to him by her parents. They did not just accept that they wanted to build something else.
If you want to remake it now, what will you change?
“Can I make it now? I think I could have been a subject if I had a subject.
“Prisoner Nandi had grace and courage to return it, as he came from the era where some people still took a chance. The subject was also close to him. Without prince, ‘Thigh Khwashin IC’ does not exist.”
In Handsite, did you think it was the right call to cast Shinie Ahuja in a central role?
“I had already cast someone else when Zoya Akhtar sent Shine to my assistant, then Associate, Ruchi Narayan. I changed the artists because suddenly I saw Vikram in Shine.”
“For the female lead, it was casting on my lap. I had auditioned hundreds of women, and suddenly Chitrangada went inside. Shine went into another audition. I tried my best to find someone for Siddharth character.
Many teams performed well for themselves …
“People forget that Swanand Kirkire was my assistant. He wanted to become a director, but he was also singing some songs – and one of them was ‘Bhatra Mann Dekhne Chala Ek Sapna’. I decided to include it in the final credit. It does something amazing. Livelihood.”
If you re -prepare ‘Hazaron Khwishin Aisi’, then whose leadership will you put under whose leadership?
“I will cast Shine again. I felt that he was fantastic. When I made that film, I felt that some force beyond me is guiding it. Whatever has gone wrong during the plan in any way, it caused better solutions. It felt as if someone was watching out for me. I am very grateful for that film.”
What happened to the idea of a sequel?
“One of my regrets … Pritish Nandy always asked me to write a sequel, but I did not like a story. I thought if I made a bad sequel, it would interfere with the memory of the first film. So I did not. But yes, I wanted me.”
