The Trump administration on Thursday accused Harvard University of failing to report the federal government required by law to report big foreign donations, part of a comprehensive effort to target the institution after refusing to follow the demands of President Trump.
University President Alan M. In a letter to Garber, the Education Department asked Harvard to provide all records of name and communication with foreign donors from the beginning of 2020.
The department also asked for records related to foreigners spending time in Harvard, in which any student spent time in Harvard, or those who had canceled their credibility were returning in 2016. The request included details about researchers, scholars, students and faculties from other countries starting from 2010.
Harvard spokesperson Jason Newton disputed the notion that the university was not complying with laws to file a report revealing foreign donations of more than $ 250,000.
“Harvard has filed Section 117 report for decades as part of the ongoing compliance with the law,” he said in a statement.
Records request is the latest example of Trump Administration, which removes Harvard for special investigation or punishment in recent weeks as it cracks on institutions of higher education on diversity and equity initiatives and is called failure to address antismitism in campuses.
Because Harvard refused to accept the requirements for policies and departments to overhall and re-configured them to reflect the priorities of the administration, federal officials punished the university by freezing $ 2.2 billion in federal grants and threatening to cancel the tax-free position of the institute.
Compliance with the latest request of administration can be an important undertaking.
Harvard, by its number, is more than 69,000 alumni who live outside the United States in 202 countries. All of them have been urged by the university for charity. Since Harvard technically canceles the credibility of any student, which leaves the campus, whether graduated or through expulsion, it is comprehensible that the demand for the records of Trump administration may apply to all those.
The size of Harvard’s visiting scholars that live in or other countries from now on were not clear.
