Jaipur: An air-conditioned coach of Sabarmati-Daulatpur Chowk Express train caught fire between Khatipura and Jagatpura railway stations in the city on Friday morning.

Officials said that the train was stopped when the fire alarm rang and the passengers were shifted to another coach. Railway staff controlled the fire with the help of people.

After about an hour, the coach was changed, and the train was sent off.
Around 70 passengers were travelling in the coach which caught fire and were shifted. The train left for its destination after around one hour, said officials. The cause of the fire is not known yet.

“The Sabarmati-Daulatpur Chowk Express train was going from Khatipura to Jagatpura at around 5am. An AC coach of the train caught fire near the CBI crossing. Flames started rising in a short while and smoke spread in the coach due to which passengers were frightened,” said Shashi Kiran, chief public relations officer while speaking to the media.

“The fire alarm was immediately sounded, and the locopilot stopped the train after which the coach was separated,” he added.
