Arvind Kejriwal, who is also the head of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was taken into custody by the ED on March 21 in connection to a money laundering investigation related to the rumored Delhi liquor policy scam.

The capital city of India is New Delhi.

The Supreme Court has approved bail for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a money-laundering case related to the Delhi liquor policy by the Enforcement Directorate. However, Mr Kejriwal will stay incarcerated as he is presently under interrogation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in another incident.

Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta issued the ruling. The court granted Mr Kejriwal interim bail in excise policy case filed by ED, stating that he has been in prison for more than 90 days.

The AAP supports the Supreme Court decision stating “truth always wins” (satyamev jayate).

The party shared on X (formerly Twitter) in Hindi with an image of Mr. Kejriwal holding the national flag, “Truth alone triumphs,”.

With the excise policy implemented in November 2021, the Delhi government stopped selling liquor at retail shops and permitted private license holders to manage the stores. Naresh Kumar, the Chief Secretary of Delhi, raised concerns in July 2022 about policy violations and accused liquor licensees of receiving unfair advantages. The policy was abandoned in September of that year.

The CBI claims that alcohol companies participated in creating the excise policy, which would have resulted in a 12% profit for them. The “South Group,” a liquor lobby, reportedly gave ₹ 100 crore in kickbacks to the AAP, with some of the money going to government officials. The Enforcement Directorate has accused the kickbacks of being laundered.
