India Champions won the first World Championship of Legends (WCL) final by beating Pakistan Champions by five wickets at Edgbaston. After the win, ex-cricketers – Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh – appeared in a video celebrating, humorously pretending to limp as they danced to the hit song “Tauba Tauba”. Nevertheless, not everyone appreciated their actions, as para-badminton star Manasi Joshi criticized them for ‘mocking disabilities’. Arman Ali, the executive director of the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), also filed a complaint against the cricket players with the SHO of the Amar Colony police station. Harbhajan turned to social media to discuss the situation and the continued controversy.
I just wanted to address our fans who are expressing concern about our latest Tauba Tauba videos on social media, following our victory in the championship in England. We did not intend to offend anyone’s feelings. We value every person and group. This video was made to highlight how our bodies feel after 15 days of non-stop cricket. We do not mean to insult or offend anyone when our bodies are sore. If people believe we have made a mistake, we apologize. I apologize to everyone, let’s end this here and move forward. Remain joyful and in good health. Much love to everyone. “Best regards,” Harbhajan wrote.
Harbhajan clarified that the video was not meant to offend anyone and the reason for limping was to illustrate the players’ physical strain from playing cricket continuously for 15 days. Nevertheless, he expressed regret for those who did not handle it appropriately and urged everyone to move on.
“Body ki Tauba Tauba ho Gayi in 15 days legends cricket… Every part of the body is sore. Straight competition to our brothers @vickykaushal09 @karanaujla our version of Tauba Tauba dance. What a SONG,” the caption of the video read.
