Udhayanidhi actively pursued this promotion to improve his position in government and help his father handle governance duties.

Udhayanidhi Stalin, son of the Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK leader MK Stalin, is set to be appointed as the deputy chief minister of the state.

As per The Indian Express, Udhayanidhi, the state’s minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, is set to be promoted before August 22, mirroring Stalin’s advancement when he was made deputy CM by his father M Karunanidhi after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

As per the newspaper, Udhayanidhi actively pursued this promotion to boost his position in the government and support his father in handling governance duties.

According to the article, a senior DMK leader mentioned that Udhayanidhi becoming deputy CM will give him the opportunity to take on additional duties, particularly as the 2026 Assembly Elections approach.

If he was hesitant, he wouldn’t pursue a more challenging role. The minister stated that the speculation is a result of his young age and fame.

Just a few months ago, Stalin rejected the reports of his son’s promotion as ‘unfounded gossip’, claiming it was orchestrated by his opponents.

Udhyanidhi gained nationwide attention this year for criticizing Sanatana Dharma, comparing it to diseases like ‘malaria’ and ‘dengue’ and calling for its eradication due to its ties to the caste system and past discrimination.

The DMK leader was reprimanded by the Supreme Court in May for ‘abusing his rights’ in a case that reached the apex court.
