Mihir Shah, who is the main suspect in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run incident, confessed to authorities that he was the driver of the car during the accident. Following a collision with the couple’s scooter on July 7, Shah noticed the woman trapped in one of the luxury car’s tires but continued to drive dangerously without stopping, despite other drivers signaling and urging him to halt, according to an official.
The defendant, aged 24, currently in police custody until July 16, stated that he has a driving license but it has not been found yet. Up to now, 14 individuals, such as Mihir Shah’s mother, sisters, and friends, have given their statements.
Rajesh Shah, a Shiv Sena politician from Palghar district, who is accused in the case, is also the father of Mihir Shah and is currently released on bail.
He mentioned that the authorities will probably go to the site of the accident in Worli area of south-central Mumbai to recreate the whole scene for their inquiry.
Mihir Shah was taken into custody by the police on July 9 in the adjacent Thane district, following an incident where he reportedly crashed his BMW into a two-wheeler, resulting in the death of Kaveri Nakhwa (45) and injuries to her husband, Pradeep, who was riding with her.
The event was recorded on CCTV cameras at Mela Junction and Bindu Madhav Thackeray Chowk in Worli.
Another official mentioned that Shah changed his appearance by shaving his beard and trimming his hair in an attempt to disguise himself, and they were investigating if he had assistance.
According to an official, Mihir Shah is refusing to cooperate with the investigation. The police have charged him with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, as well as other offenses. Following the accident, the main suspect, along with his relatives living in Borivali, Mumbai, and his grandfather in Palghar, all vacated their homes and could not be located.
According to the official, police will arrange a meeting between Rajrishi Bidawat, the family chauffeur, and Mihir Shah to gather additional details about the accident and fully understand the series of events. Bidawat, who was with Mihir Shah during the accident, is also a suspect in the case.
As stated in a Times of India article, excise authorities claimed that Mihir and his two companions consumed a total of 12 large whiskey pegs – amounting to four large pegs each – at the bar they frequented prior to the incident. They stated that the bill indicates the 24-year-old and his companions consumed 12 drinks, enough to keep them intoxicated for eight hours.
In the meantime, Eknath Shinde, the leader of Shiv Sena and the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, instructed for Rajesh Shah to be removed from his party role. The government will not endorse any offender in this situation. We support the victim’s family. Shinde stated that the government will offer whatever financial assistance the family requires.
